Growth in cases of unknown origin signaled to public health officials Americans are being exposed:
-at work
- shopping centers
-travel hubs
prompting #StayAtHome orders. Recent cases: IL civilian worker at an Air Force base, Episcopal priest in TN & 10 Los Angeles firefighters.
When the coronavirus began spreading in the US the vast majority of cases were in coastal states.

This week, all states have reported alarming new statistics. New cases and deaths concentrated in the Midwest’s largest cities: Cleveland, St. Louis and Omaha.
If your community is affected, help reduce your risk and do your part to protect others . Prepare your family, and communicate your plan. Experts suggest stocking at least a 30-day supply of prescriptions. Consider doing the same for food staples. nytimes.com/interactive/20…

(Physicians) try to balance obligations as professionals w/their duties as husbands, wives, parents & children.
The risk to personal health from the coronavirus is alarming enough, but risk of infecting our families because of exposure on the job is for some unacceptable. Rates of infection among hcw ~14% of confirmed cases in Spain- risk of transmission to our loved ones not insignificant
👉Health care workers should not be forced to incur additional risk because people don’t want to practice social distancing (vacationers flocking to Florida beaches during spring break come to mind). nytimes.com/2020/04/02/opi…

Just finished a Zoom meeting with members of Cobb Legislative Delegation and public health officials for Cobb/Douglas Public Health District.
We are at 272 cases in Cobb (but this is changing hour to hour).

Concerning number is that Cobb has a 40% hospitalization rate for those with #COVID19.
Officials indicated that lack of testing has been major issue.

That it was taking 12 - 14 days to get back results.

The White House's focus on stopping the coronavirus at the border - issuing drastic travel restrictions, imposing mandatory quarantines - should have been a way to buy time while aggressively ramping up community preparedness. That's where it broke down
