The Jamaat-i-Islami is, by far, one of the most influential #Islamic movements in the #world today, particularly strong in the countries of #SouthAsia. Its influence extends far beyond the confines of the #Indo-#Pakistan subcontinent.
(1/19)
Jamaat-e-Islami J&K (#JIJK)was formed in 1945 as a chapter of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind & separated in 1953 due to differences over #political ideology with the parent body.
(2/19)
JIJK was banned in 1975 for 2 years during #Emergency, in 1990 for 5 years for fostering #Terrorism in #Kashmir.
It was handed a 3rd 5 year ban in Feb 2019 2 weeks after #Pulwama attack for its close links with #terror outfits & its involvement in #secessionist activities.
(3/19)
The JIJK’s ideology is based on the writings of Abul A'la Maududi, he saw #Islam as a complete ideology & code of life, covering all aspects of a #Muslim's personal & collective existence. For Islam to be enforced in its entirety, it is necessary for Muslims to struggle..
(4/19)
..for the establishment of an #Islamic State, ruled by the Islamic law. #Democracy is seen as un-Islamic, for it is said to go against the Islamic understanding of #God as the #sovereign authority & law-maker. For the same reason Western-style #secularism is condemned.
(5/19)
During the Partition in 1947 Jamaat activists in #Kashmir ardently advocated the state's accession to #Pakistan, but in the face of the National Conference and #India's overwhelming military power, could do little.
(6/19)
JIJK opposed prevalent #Sufism(which was more accommodating & tolerant) in J&K, hence was constantly accused of spreading #Wahhabism. This was the primary reason Jamaat could not gain a #political stronghold in #Kashmir in its earlier days..
(7/19)
..this was reflected in its #election#campaigns. It participated in election between 1969 -87, but hardly ever won any significant seats. Its best performance was in 1972 #StateAssembly#election where it won a meager 5 seats.
(8/19)
#Jamaat expanded its base in 1970, it established a number of schools. Part of the reason JIJK felt a need to establish its own schools was the feeling that the #Indian educational system was threatening #Kashmir's #Islamic#culture.
(9/19)
In 1979 JIJK suffered a major setback, in April 1979 General Zia ul Haq seized power & hanged Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Common perception was that the Jamaat-i-Islami of #Pakistan was behind this event. Consequently, there were massive anti-Jamaat agitations all over Kashmir.
(10/19)
1987 was the last time JIJK contested in #elections. Soon it took the path of #Armed violence in 1990. The primary reason was the realization that if it did not join in the struggle, it would be marginalized by the sweeping popularity of the #JKLF.
(11/19)
The subsequent assistance provided to JIJK by #Pakistan helped in the displacing #JKLF in the armed struggle. Scores of JKLF men were killed by the #IndianForces & by rival pro-#Pakistan groups. Pakistan now diverted its support to pro-Pakistan #Islamist outfits like HM.
(12/19)
Thus by 1995, #JKLF was no longer a force to seriously reckon with. #Pakistani support ensured that #Islamist groups like #JIJK, #HM advocating #Kashmir's merger with Pakistan gained the upper hand, at least at the military level, a fact that still holds today
(13/19)
Students from #JIJK schools were often recruited for arms training in #Pakistan & infiltrated back to carry on subversive activities. In 1989 #HizbulMujahideen was adopted as its "militant wing" by JIJK under the influence of #Pakistan's #ISI.
(14/19)
Jamaat lost hundreds of its cadre to #Counter-Insurgency operations by the #SecurityForces and the Ikhwan. This compelled Jamaat to openly distanced itself from #terrorist organisations by 1997.
(15/19)
Jamaat was an influential founder member of the undivided #HurriyatConference from its inception in 1993 till 2003, when the amalgam suffered a vertical split led by #Geelani over alleged proxy participation in 2002 Polls by some leaders of the People's Conference.
(16/19)
JIJK have undertaken major #protests in the 1990s, 2008, 2010 and 2014. The children of prominent Jamaat leaders have also joined the #terror outfits and were killed, like sons of former emirs Hakeem Ghulam Nabi & Sheikh Hassan
(17/19)
Former Jamaat member and Chairman Tehreek-I-Hurriyat Ashraf Sehrai's son Junaid Ashraf joined #HM & was killed later in an #encounter.
(18/19)
Maududi believed that #Muslims can't live an Islamic life under an un-Islamic regime. Jamaat has always condemned Indianization & #secularism in Kashmir. It has pushed generations of Kashmiri youth into the dark abyss of militancy bringing death & destruction to #Kashmir

Historically #Kashmiri women have enjoyed freedom like none of their counterparts in the other regions of our country. The intrusion of regressive ideologies, targeted at women, in the 90’s, might have pushed them behind but they are rapidly changing the gender norms.
The spirit of women in #Kashmir, supported aptly by various #government initiatives, have grown wings that enable them to soar the skies and break the glass ceiling. #WomenEmpowerment#Kashmir
With the #abrogation, women of #Kashmir now have a stake in their ancestral properties regardless of their choice is spouse. This have liberated women who are not bound, shackled with patriarchal laws.
Education enables us to make effective decisions about ourselves, our surroundings, and our societies.
Suffice to say #Education as an institution is notably significant in a civil society. And more so for #Kashmir.
In #Kashmir, the importance of structured #Education increases manifolds due to the dynamic nature of this region. Lack of education has a severe cascading effect here, eventually leading the gullible young people towards unlawful activities. @kakar_harsha@neeraj_rajput
#Pandemic has restricted movement all over. With every public institution closed including schools and colleges, the Govt of #Jammu and #Kashmir have introduced initiatives to help students continue their studies, even in such uncertain times. @MirYanaSY@Fayak_Wani1@IAmErAijaz
Let us know, what's the motive and who are/were some of the people running handles like Kashmir Intel (@Kashmirosint), which claim themselves to be voice or source of information of #Kashmir.
NIA in Sep 2020 filed a charge sheet against 5 operatives of #IslamicState Khorasan Province, including the #Kashmiri couple who were running Kashmir Intel for allegedly conspiring to utilize the anti #CAA protests to instigate #Muslims against #Indian government & provoke riots
Here is how the couple, Jahanzaib Sami Wani & Hina Bashir planned to exploit gullible Muslim youth
They were conspiring to create unrest during anti #CAA protest by coining seditious slogans & making graffiti at public places, highlighting the same on social & international media

For nearly two weeks the villages along LoC are witnessing days and nights without the sound of guns and bombs as the DGMOs of the two nations announced reaffirmation of the #India - #Pakistan ceasefire agreement.
It is pertinent to mention that the cease-fire was asked by #Pakistan. Although, the agreement is reported to be a result of week long back-channel discussions, what made Pakistan walk on this road? Here is a quick analysis.
#India’s hardened approach to #Pakistan with cross-border surgical strikes after the #Uri terror attack & upped the ante further with the #BalakotAirStrikes following #Pulwama terror attack has made it clear that no more diplomatic resolves will opt until Pakistan mends its way
