Monday's #Coronavirus thread starts here, as we hope Europe continues to make progress against the spread of #Covid19.
All the news as it happens throughout the day but I'll particularly be watching two things
Countries heading back up again
Deaths falling 10-14 days after peak
#USA continues to surge - initial figures for Sunday not yet in (this total always increases anyway when regions which didn't report over the weekend add their data)
But one big headline came from #Florida, where the Sunshine State went back over 10,000 #Covid19 cases in a day
..it's the first time since July #Florida hit 10k, and for the last 3 months FLA has not even touched 7,000
Today #USA should experience a total of between 158,000 and 180,000 cases as it edges towards 200k in the coming days. I'm predicting 172,000 by the end of the day
#Bulgaria's been going up and down lately, but now the country's #Covid19 infection rate is at its highest ever of 475 AD/M
It follows the announcement of 816 daily new cases late last night, up from 675 the previous week.
#Czechia almost halves the total of new #Covid19 cases once again
All the hospital data in the Czech Republic is improving too.
1,887 new cases today, down from 3,608 last Monday morning
#Germany on Saturday enjoyed its first fall in infection for months. Sunday proved to be virtually unchanged from the previous week, with 14,045 new #Covid19 cases, compared to 14,026
I expect to see German cases start to fall quite regularly this week.
#Belgium continues to reduce figures with 4,659 new #Covid19 infections detected, almost 2,000 down on last Monday.
But even today's rate alone is equivalent to 280/100,000 or 400 AD/M which causes concern about what happens if/when Brussels eases restrictions
Also for #Belgium number of ICU patients the positive test rate is plateauing in the high teens and #Covid19 hospital patients/admissions has stopped falling.
Still a lot of work to be done
#Ukraine persistently rising by 10-15%
9,832 new #Covid19 cases today, and further records likely from Thursday onwards again projections show, with 14,000 expected by the end of the week.
#Russia posts a record 22,778 new cases of #Covid19
It's just 76 above the previous record set on Saturday
Infection rate now up to 149 AD/M
A big leap in #Covid19 cases for #Hungary today and a new all-time high for the country
The total of 6,495 infections comes as a big surprise, as Hungary had been stable for a week and the infection rate had actually fallen the last two days. The tally is 25% up on last Monday
Lithuania was removed on 1 November & their Baltic neighbours are, despite excellent testing, struggling to keep #Covid19 at bay.
Estonia today has 211 new cases, taking it to 120/100k
Decent news for #Slovakia today - even though it's the weekend lag, just 509 new cases of #Covid19 is progress. That's down from 577 last Monday.
But the progress is slowing now, even in % terms.
The infection rate is still 293 AD/M and a critical week ahead
#Croatia breathing a sigh of relief as #Covid19 case numbers are down for the 2nd day, week on week.
Today 1,313 (1,529 last Mon)
However still the same caveats: low testing, 27% positive test rate, and the infection rate itself is still incredibly high at 583 AD/M, 408/100,000
#Poland is continue to manipulate #Covid19 top line figures, either deliberately or otherwise.
But even with the new policy of reducing tests, numbers are not falling as quickly
Today 20,816 new infections (last Mon 21,713)
Today 35,100 tests (43,400)
+ve test rate: 59% (50%)
The fact is #Poland can claim they have not broken the national daily record of 27,875 since 7 November, but all other indicators show the situation is getting worse.
In the last week alone the number of #Covid19 patients in ICU beds has increased by 300 (17%)
#Switzerland, one of the worst affected countries of Europe, continues to reduce the spread of #Covid19
They had 12,839 new cases over the last 3 days (no reporting at weekend)
That works out at 4,280 per day, which is 1500 fewer per day than last weekend
Another pharmaceutical giant announces very successful preliminary trial data in the race for a SARS/Cov2 vaccine.
Moderna suggests its vaccine is 94.5% effective and 100% effective in protecting against the most severe forms of #Covid19
Bad news for #Ireland
For the second time in 3 days case numbers are up on the week before, and the infection rate's now back up to its highest level for 6 days
456 new #Covid19 infections today (270 last Monday)
38,273 new #Covid19 infections, which works out at 12,758 per day
That's a big drop on 17,462- the average for last weekend
Only 484 new deaths for #Spain over the last 3 days in the data which have just been released.
Must also say that testing today is slightly up on a week ago according to the government stats, and consequently the #Covid19 +ve rate is down from 13.5% last Monday to 11.7% today
Numbers always down on Mondays, but even so the figure is slightly lower than a week ago
The figures don't include 50 positives from "rapid tests" which have yet to be verified
#UK cases today are virtually unchanged from last week, and considering the recent increased testing, that means it's highly likely incidence of #Covid19 in the community is declining.
21,363 new infections reported today (21,350 last Monday)
Only 9,406 new #Covid19 cases in the update from #France this evening. That's well under half the number reported last Monday.
However the government's reporting positive test rate is still at 16.4%, but I believe that's for pre-weekend days, so this looks very positive
Bit of a #Coronavirus disaster for #Portugal this evening with national records for both deaths and new cases
Considering Monday is usually a low-case day, the total of 8,371 new #Covid19 infections is both surprising and shocking
In #Belarus today the usual Sunday protests, but things are sinking to a new low.
Many people have come to a provincial neighbourhood of #Minsk to pay tribute to, protest against, the brutal murder of Roman Bondarenko by police
The regime turns the memorial site into a war zone
#Belarus
Meanwhile, nearby on Pushkinskaya in central #Minsk, another attack on protesters. One can hear the screams, the crack of the batons, and shots of some description

#Belarus
A good aerial shot of the situation around "Changes Square" in #Minsk where the 31 year old artist was murdered by police this week. Thousands trying to pay respects, view the makeshift memorial and protest.
The regime responds with more violence
#Austria is still the most #Covid19 infected nation in Europe, but it too saw its first fall in numbers for weeks.
That didn't stop Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announcing an even stricter lockdown from Tuesday when all schools will also close for two and a half weeks
