[TW suicide] so. Reading Hunter S. Thompson’s wiki biography, I feel like he has a bit of an unsettled ghost. 👻
And here’s why. Old people die of heart problems or multiple organ failure or cancer or stuff like that. He died because he had depression.
My dad was a little older than Hunter. S. Thompson. He died, more recently, a bit like Ronald Reagan did, with pneumonia but also dementia.
That’s a messed up way to go. Honestly, if I had a really serious condition where euthanasia was the way to go (hopefully at age 160+ 😉)
…like cancer or dementia or something where I was brain dead and on life support, I want the hospital to use my organs to save others, etc..
But Hunter S. Thompson, a satirist with a wit not seen since Mark Twain or Bill Hicks at his best (+ a few others), killed himself. 🙁🔫
So he only lived to be 67. Feb. 20, 2005. It’s a Kurt Cobain way to go. Not recommended for yourself or the living. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunter_S.…
So don’t do that. That’s a way to leave a really unquiet ghost behind. But anyway, the winter of 2005… that was just a terrible time for 🌍.
One author historian who I really grew to appreciate as far as explaining the Nixon & Reagan years to me is @rickperlstein.
Another author, whose books I highly recommend, who passed away in 2010, is Chalmers Johnson (note the spelling of his first name).
[untagging] Johnson doesn’t have a Twitter account. I have some of his books on Kindle & some in paperback on Japanese industrial history.
