15,000 of you spoke up and told the FCC we will not stand for the Sinclair-Tribune merger. Now lets hammer home the facts of why this merger shouldn’t be approved: [Thread] bit.ly/2zhI4KK
Sinclair-Tribune would reduce competition between media corporations in local markets, diminishing the incentive to generate innovative and improved programming for local audiences.
The merger violates the FCC’s national ownership cap -- having a 72% market share is well over the FCC cap.
Sinclair-Tribune fails to meet the FCC’s public interest threshold, where Sinclair’s requirement for local stations to politicize local news is “unheard of”
For the merger to truly pass the FCC would need to severely bend the rules and that does not serve the public interest.
.@AjitPai’s clear motive to jettison decades of established law is not in his purview, he should take that request to Congress, not bend the rules on his own to allow Sinclair to take over our news.
The answer is clear. Sinclair-Tribune should not be granted the ability to merge. Until the FCC comes back to reality and enforces their own rules, we will keep up the vocal opposition. Join us, to save local news >> stopsinclair.com
