Trump DOJ wants to reinstate a basic question on citizenship in the census. In their immigration intransigence, Left is revolting. THREAD on the emerging controversy over a potential change affecting $bns of tax dollars and every leg district in America thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
...And also I might add a thread on the Left's attack on a citizenship question that perfectly justifies the reinstatement of the question -- because transparency on this issue is so critically important to American citizens and the Dems want to hide it. thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
It's hard to imagine Americans would take issue with the U.S. government inquiring about citizenship status in a population census. But in 2018, some Democrats consider it a radical act to ask the simple question, “Are you a U.S. citizen?” thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
Why does the DOJ want to reinstate citizenship question?
-It needs the data to protect against voter discrimination in gerrymandering under the Voting Rights Act S2
-Data it gets after Obama admin's removal of question from '10 census isn't granular enough thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
.@SenFeinstein challenges citizenship ? on 3 grounds:
1 Not enough time to test ? "impact and effectiveness"
2 Question would depress census participation
3 Chilling effect could lead to "broad inaccuracies" in fed fund redistribution/district-drawing thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
.@SenFeinstein's first argument against census asking citizenship doesn't pass muster. We included the citizenship question on censuses from 1970-2000. 2010 was the first time we pulled it from the long-form census. This is wholly disingenuous. thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
.@SenFeinstein second argument against census asking citizenship's also lacking. Sen says we don't have time to test ? impact, but then argues it will depress participation. So I guess she knows the impact? There are other major issues she must address... thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
Didn't we have participation risk from '70-'00? Illegals do not have to identify as such, so what should they fear? Why is it @SenFeinstein's concern if noncitizens don't participate for fear of legal action? Isn't Sen's 1st responsibility to US citizens? thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
Ironically Dems' major concern about impact of census asking for citizenship info is precisely why we need it. Congressional apportionment and thus electoral college is determined by citizen PLUS noncitizen pop. Fed funds are allocated by this same pop. thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
The impact of citizenship on apportionment/# of electors per state is exactly why @SenFeinstein wants maximum noncitizen participation. States with big illegal alien pops get disproportionate political power by including illegals in pop count. thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
Citizen + noncitizen pop is also used to allocate federal funds. In '15 $675bn was doled out using Census Bureau #s, including '10 census. So again, @SenFeinstein et al have every incentive to maximize pop count by maximizing illegal alien participation thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
By failing to compile citizenship data in the census, politicians like @SenFeinstein prevent constituents from having an accurate picture as to the extent to which they are subsidizing non-citizens broadly, and illegal aliens in particular. thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
Unwillingness of elected officials to support citizenship data is of a piece w not breaking crime figures by citizen status: It hurts political class' narrative. Ds see future permanent majority. Corporatist Rs see cheap labor. Forgotten man bears costs thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
Feinstein/Schumer weren't always immigration radicals. What has changed is weaponization of identity politics to where if you support sovereignty/law you're a bigot. Thus noncitizens are protected/favored over Deplorables. Have our betters learned nothing? thefederalist.com/2018/02/01/dem…
