1/ On Trump’s beef with Amazon: As is sometimes the case with him, there’s truth in the rant. But then his actions & his party’s actions tell another story. 
2/ For example, Amazon is in fact a crafty tax dodger. The advantage that comes from not paying the same taxes as your competitors has been core to Bezos’s strategy from the start. (Detail here: ilsr.org/amazon-strangl…)
3/ However, the GOP tax law does the opposite of fixing this. It gives Amazon a one-time $789 million windfall & lets Amazon continue to use loopholes that small businesses can’t access. itep.org/amazon-inc-pai…
4/ On sales tax, Amazon does not collect for all of the third-party sales on its site, which are half of its volume. Again, Congress could fix this…
5/ … But it won’t and the GOP — namely, Trump’s buddy Goodlatte — has been blocking sales tax fairness legislation for years.
6/ Amazon is devouring the US Post Office from the inside out. Like many Amazon “partners,” USPS has made money for a time, but that party will soon end.
7/ Amazon has used the USPS to understand delivery, and now it’s going to take over the profitable routes itself, leaving USPS with the money-losing rural routes.
8/ Meanwhile, postal workers have had to adopt Amazon’s grueling labor model. thenation.com/article/postal…
9/ Do you see Trump’s Labor Dept dealing with workplace issues like misclassification? No, you don’t Amazon operates its warehouses & delivery routes with misclassified temps.
10/ On antitrust, perhaps the new FTC will look at how Amazon is, as many predicted, using Whole Foods to solidify its online monopoly, and force the deal to be unwound.
11/ That would be good. We’ll see.
