So, based on my report last month and the Guardian/Red Roar reports this week, Barry Gardiner said a) Labour should be ready to vote for a Brexit deal it doesn't like and b) described the Good Friday Agreement as a "shibboleth"... all in one meeting. He denies it all, of course.

Labour MP on Gardiner’s Irish border remarks: “Incredible. As if the men with the bullets and the bombs will give a toss about why there's a hard border.”

Labour MP tells me Gardiner has to be sacked: "Surely they have to sack him. But never fear, there's a wealth of Corbynista talent, just waiting in the wings"

Gardiner apologises (and probably avoids the sack) for his "informal" remarks about the Good Friday Agreement. One wonders if Owen Smith would have been spared the axe had his second referendum comments been less formal.

A person who attended the Gardiner meeting: "It was a car crash. We were really shocked... an extraordinary set of comments to come out with... he played the meeting very badly."

Another attendee on our story which Gardiner said was a lie:

"It was very much a reference to Westminster. He made that clear. It effectively was we'll have no choice but to vote in favour of what's put in front of us."
