Unlike most Remainers, I could forgive Labour for not openly opposing Brexit. (I agree there’s some tricky electoral arithmetic.) What I can’t forgive is desperately avoiding the subject: they should be saying, “Regardless of how you voted, this govt is making a hash of Brexit.”
That’s what the official Opposition is supposed to do in a parliamentary democracy: challenge the government, keep it under pressure and hold it to account for its performance on the big issues that really matter for the future of the country. #BrexitShambles #twats
Shameful dereliction of Labour’s duty to the voters- colluding with this disgraceful government to try (as far as possible) to bury Brexit as a subject of political debate until after the Article 50 clock has run down. Shameful. And a terrible electoral miscalculation too.
Labour should have been majoring on government incompetence over Brexit every single week for the past 18 months, hammering them weekly at Prime Minister’s Questions over how badly they were screwing things up, jeopardising the country’s future.
With a bit of nimble footwork, they could have easily done this *without* having to say that they opposed Brexit in principle. The govt’s incompetence (and division) offered week after week of open goals to a half-capable opposition with a bit of courage and conviction.
Instead: the Labour leadership have been *desperate* wherever possible to talk about anything but Brexit. On Brexit, they have just said the bare minimum necessary, the absolute least they could get away with. Fucking twats. #BrexitShambles #twats
So that’s why I, a former Labour supporter, can never forgive the party’s current leadership for its performance on Brexit. Cowardice. Cynicism. Dereliction of duty. Shit-for-brains miscalculation. #BrexitShambles #twats
