The story of Colin Powell is unfortunately one of tragedy and failure, not struggle and success.

It’s true he was a senior officer at time when there few black senior officers.

It’s true he become a civilian leader at time there were no black civilian leaders in the US.

But.
When called upon to actually ‘lead’ Powell failed.

More correctly, he showed his true character.
By going to the UN and knowingly making a false case for war, and then afterwards shrugging it off by the simple ‘I follow orders. It’s what I do’ he revealed his true nature, and the reason for his success.

On 10/7/01, when the US launched the #WarOnTerror w/ Operation Enduring Freedom, they littered Afghanistan with Tomahawk missiles, cluster bombs, and pamphlets like this offering $$$$ for al Qaeda & Taliban fighters.
Like thousands of others, I was sold to the US for bounty money, sent to a black site where I was tortured & then sent to Guantanamo. I was only 18 years old. I wasn’t a fighter. I wasn’t al Qaeda leader or Taliban.
At Guantanamo, I met farmers who were sold by neighbors who wanted their land. I met charity workers, teachers, engineers, all kinds of men who were sold as fighters.

Do you remember #Janabi? Abir Al Janabi. A 14-year-old #Iraqi girl. In 2006, Janabi's father stopped sending Janabi to school in fear of the #US Army's focus on his daughter. The Army who was establihing "#democracy" and "#human rights" in Iraq. 1/32
Janabi used to stay at home, spending her days of adolescence playing with her younger siblings.
The U.S. military's security checkpoint was located just 200 meters from Janabi's house. One day, a #USsoldier notices Janabi. And Janabi and her family were doomed right then. 2/32
For a few days at first, the #soldiers repeatedly came to Janabi's house in the name of search and made ugly gestures towards her. One day the four #armies decided that today they would be the day to enjoy Jamabai and kill some #Muslims. 3/32

1. US invaded #Afghanistan after #Taliban refused to hand over Bin Laden after 9/11 attacks.
2. US invaded #Iraq based on tortured “confession” of Ibn al-Sheikh al-Libi that AQ was working with #Saddam to get WMDs.
3. But, just like AQ, there no WMDs in Iraq - until invasion.
4. Abu Musab al-#Zarqawi left Afghanistan to set up AQI in Iraq to fight US.
5. His tactics were so brutal than even AQ central tried to curb them.
6. Shia and Sunni groups who’d both fought occupiers turned on each other while US back one against the other.
7. Abu Ghraib abuse images shocked the world but Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (#torture) first used in Kandahar, Bagram and #CIA ‘black sites.’
8. Alleged AQ & Taliban captives sent to #Guantanamo where General Geoffrey Miller applied US approved torture methods.

1/ The case of #JulianAssange can be depressing & overhwhelming. The persecution has cost this man & his family a decade of their lives. So here is a short thread (with cartoons) summarising the key reasons, Britain must not continue to be America's lapdog Image
2/ This prosecution is politically motivated. The US wants to hide its horrendous record of murder, rape & torture of innocent civilians like ElMasri therenditionproject.org.uk/prisoners/khal… .
It does not want to be embarrassed for the incompetence & warmongering that destroyed entire nations. Image
3/ It is astounding that even though the defendant's conversations with his lawyers were spied upon and the prosecuting team is revealed to have conspired to kill / harm the defendant, the trial continues without any impediment.
