"I read Ben Habib MEP’s article on BrexitCentral yesterday and thought it important to explain in a bit more detail why I think he is wrong – and why the Brexit Party is risking Brexit itself and doing so based on a false premise."

👏
Level playing field provisions in the future are now radically different.

The political declaration merely says there will be provisions in the EU-UK FTA to deal with labour, environment, competition and state aids.

These disciplines are *common in all FTAs*.
This deal is now fundamentally different: an FTA is the final end state not a customs union in goods, which is where the previous deal would have taken us.

No more backstop tying the UK into a CU with the EU forever, and no more building from a single customs territory: 👍

Here's my pitch.

Vote for me and

1. I'll deliver chaos for 10 years, minimum
2. This will cost everyone £2000 or the entire budget of the Armed Forces and Ministry of Transport.
3. Every year.
4. You'll do this for sovereignty and independence.
5. Except I and you have not
understood the realities of global trade. So the result will be less sovereignty, less independence and less money.
6. I will claim to be able to improve my trade position, by leaving on bad terms with the world's largest trade bloc
7. I'll tell you I can sign my own better deals
but neglect to mention I already have or will have deals covering 80% of global trade.
8. Which is fine because conveniently you'll never ask me which countries will give me better deals.
9. I'll use objections to immigrants and fear of Muslims to make you want border control but

Everything you've been told about #Brexit is a lie.

It is not the will of the people, and it is your duty as a citizen to oppose and reject it

So we can build NHS, schools, our future.

There are hysterical myths that fly around Brexit.

You prefer the facts.

Help urgently with the message we must oppose the cries of "will of the people". Their last "argument".

Let's look at the Brexit Tyrannies
Tyranny 1. The Brexits.

Whatever Brexit was in 2016, it's now unrecognisable. #FBPE

None of the 2016 promises delivered. None of the consequences has consent.

This evidence? We can compare all the 2016 promises against the deals. Detail in the thread.

A short post on what it takes to #GetBrexitDone

The trouble with the brexits is every time tories add things they end up lengthening Brexit

In 2016 when #farage defined Norway Brexit change would have taken days. Keeping the original #thatcherdeal means Brexit is done already
But the tories added on two things that weren't part of the 2016 mandate because no one thought we'd be so stupid.

1. A need for an EU FTA - all the 2016 campaigns assumed staying in the customs union.

2. A need to renegotiate all Non-EU FTAs that we get through EU.
These decisions added YEARS.

1. EU FTA, the average is 3-5 years. The idea it will be quicker is said by people who know nothing about international trade. It will be slower due to all the exceptions.

2. 10 years? It should be 35 years if we take the average. Can you imagine?

V. Important thread 1/ Brexit – Update

With still no conclusion as to whether the UK will leave the European Union on the 31st October with or without a deal we have drawn up a list of things that you
2/ or your clients should have done or be doing to minimise the impact of the UK leaving the EU with No Deal from a Customs perspective.

We accept any outcome is still possible but it would be remiss of us not to keep you up to date even at this late stage.
3/ Exports from the UK to the EU.

1; An Export Declaration (EAD) must be completed first- either by a) the UK Exporter b) their Customs agent or c) their transporter or forwarding agent. This must be raised and transmitted to CHIEF before the goods leave the exporters premises.

THREAD: 1/ Despite months of asking for one, Labour refused a General Election saying they will only agree once 31st Oct has passed. They’ve changed their tune AGAIN. Now they say they want a 2nd referendum instead, which risks months of Parliamentary paralysis. Here’s why:
2/ A 2nd referendum requires four steps – 1. Primary legislation 2. Question testing by the Electoral Commission 3. Operational preparations 4. A regulated campaign period. For the 2016 Referendum, the entire process took 13 months.
3/ Primary legislation - EU Referendum Act 2016 alone took 8 months (!) including the extra month for Statutory Instruments covering date of ref, funding, Welsh forms and conduct rules.

Please note: I'm a vindictive bastard.

Vote for the #BrexitDeal today and I (et al) will spend the rest of your careers reminding people that every bad consequence of it to their lives is because YOU could have given us a democratic way out, but chose Boris Johnson.
#BrexitVote
You'll all be remembered as the people who failed democracy by treating a signed blank cheque as consent.

We signed 4 words in 2016: Leave the European Union.
That cheque was filled in into a 600-page treaty by two Prime Ministers the country never even consented to.

This new deal ensures that we #TakeBackControl of our laws, borders, money and trade without disruption & establishes a new relationship with the EU based on free trade and friendly cooperation. #GetBrexitDone #TakeBackControl
This is a deal which allows us to get Brexit done and leave the EU in two weeks’ time, so we can then focus on the people’s priorities and bring the country back together again. #GetBrexitDone #TakeBackControl
This new deal takes back control. Under the previous negotiation, Brussels maintained ultimate control and could have forced Britain to accept EU laws and taxes for ever.

In @thetimesscot, a new @TheIFS report shows the economy is £60bn smaller than forecast because of #Brexit and shockingly ranks our economic prospects higher under a Labour-led government. 1/
"The public finances have deteriorated substantially" and a 'no deal' Brexit would necessitate huge fiscal stimulus seeing the national debt soar to 90% of GDP, wrecking our own government borrowing rules. 2/
The report shows current Conservative spending plans almost match the level of Labour's 2017 #magicmoneytree manifesto and "the government is now adrift without any effective fiscal anchor" 3/

Debate about where EU defence is heading is surrounded with complexity, jargon, misunderstandings and denial so well done @EUDefenceAgency for setting things out clearly:

eda.europa.eu/what-we-do/our…
"Piece 1: Common priorities (CDP)

"The CDP is the only joint defence capability prioritisation tool at European level covering the whole capability spectrum."
"As the CDP’s architect, EDA has produced regular updates since 2008, in close cooperation with Member States, the EU Military Committee (EUMC) and the EU Military Staff (EUMS)."

One day a Brexit Inquiry will focus on language & propaganda. How govt after govt refused to set out hard facts about what Brexit entails without hiding behind slogans.

Get Brexit Done is not only as deliberately evasive as May’s Brexit Means Brexit. It is a straightforward lie.

Want to #getbrexitdone? Another lie. We want to #getbrexitgone, never see it again.

But imagine Boris really does want to get it out of the way. Why then is he choosing the #Brexit path guaranteed to make Brexit go on for decades? Short Thread #FBPE⬇️ with links to back it up
In 2016 Brexit was not "anything Tories want". If votes worked that way, they'd enable divine rule. No leaver wants more Government. We've opposed that corruption since Magna Carta, let's not stop now
The result - #NOTBrexitdone - Years of Legal Opposition
In 2016 we voted for frictionless trade.
No Deal throws 70 trade deals, 50 trade arrangements and 750 contracts under the Boris Bus. That's 80% of GLOBAL trade, not just EU

The result - #NOTBrexitdone. Years of Trade Chaos, endless deals, for no reason

#GetBrexitDone is one of the most misleading slogans we’ve seen. Best case scenario, we pass a deal, another cliffedge in a year or two. No deal=years of fall out, both internally and domestically, with a decade of negotiations or more.
Leave, Remain, deal, no deal, it’s all matters of degree. Brexit isn’t getting done, or being left alone for a long, long time.
