Comparisons with “lock her up” are important reminders of misogyny, but it is IMPERATIVE to understand that @IlhanMN is not a powerful, wealthy white woman like Hillary Clinton. Ilhan Omar is a Black Muslim woman in hijab & former refugee. Racism, misogyny, xenophobia,Islamophobia
When Trump incited mob to yell “lock her up,” the misogyny was awful but you knew that the Democratic Party establishment was there for Clinton.
When Trump incites mob to yell “send her back,”who is there for @IlhanMN when Pelosi & party establishment are shamefully acquiescent?
Hillary Clinton is a former First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State who ran for president of the USA.
@IlhanMN is a former refugee who is one of the 1st two Muslim congresswomen. She is a Black Muslim woman in hijab in a deeply racist, misogynist, and Islamophobic country.
Similarly, when Trump attacked 4 congresswomen of colour (incl Omar), remember they r working class women of colour and:
- @AyannaPressley: 1st Black woman to represent Massachusetts
- @AOC: youngest woman to serve in Congress
- @RashidaTlaib: 1 of 1st 2 Muslim women in Congress
These four congresswomen are not white, not the establishment, not wealthy. White supremacist patriarchy of Trump et al is especially harmful and dangerous to them and Ilhan Omar is especially targeted by and vulnerable to its dangers. #IStandWithIlhan
And remember: Trump knows that Ilhan Omar is what his base hates the most and for months now, he has targeted her - not just this weekend, not just yesterday, #IStandWithIlhan
