You may or may not want to belong to the EU. But the line “the EU doesn’t solve problems, it pushes them along - look at migration, Greece, euro” is cheap propaganda, not smart journalism (short thread)
There are any number of problems the EU has, indubitably, not resolved. But if that’s your standard, you can have fun making a list for every single nation state.
The UK doesn’t resolve problems, it just pushes them along: poverty in Wales, decentralization, Northern Ireland, migration, NHS, pension reform.
Germany doesn’t resolve problems, it just pushes them along: Eastern Germany still unequal, constant health reform, digital, pensions, migration
Italy doesn’t resolve problems, it just pushes them along: North-South divide, migration, health care, employment
Oh - and you can list a whole lot of other problems no nation in the world has resolved, let’s start with climate change.
So if every entity that fails to resolve these challenges has to be dissolved, all of them have to. The UN, NATO, the EU, your country, your state, your city, your village, your church. You will live alone. On a tree. I won’t. I cannot climb.
Running a country, running the EU is much like running your life: there are a lot of things you cannot “resolve”, but only manage. Problems will reoccur. Again and again. Migration. Health care reform. Pensions. The economy.
You can then look at the success stories (for the EU, e.g. Ireland, the economy of Eastern Europe, the numerous benefits nobody seems to dislike, like maintaining pension rights when changing countries) or at failures.
My suggestion: instead of looking for a scategoap (oh look, the EU has not solved migration), let’s look at the problem. And try to tackle it.
