A spot of good news...the Carla and Lawrence McCue, whose struggle to find a permanent housing solution I profiled, got a home. I was there on Thursday when they got the keys.
This is a happy ending, but as Pat Cohen who runs Safe Parking LA and has been helping the couple, reminded me when we spoke: there are many more like them. Here is Lawrence signing the lease. He purchased those shoes for this special occasion.

The only thing Adam loved more than his family and politics was baseball. He took me to one of my first games--an exhibition game at RFK Stadium btw the Expos and Cardinals (his fav team). He was a huge proponent of DC getting a team.

This sentiment always brings me back to a John Boehner interview on @MeetThePress in 2011 where he's asked about Trump's birtherism stuff.

David Gregory asks: "Do you not think it’s your responsibility to stand up to that kind of ignorance?"

Boehner says this:
GREGORY: But that kind of ignorance over whether he’s a Muslim doesn’t concern you?

BOEHNER: "Listen, the American people have the right to think what they want to think. I can’t — it’s not my job to tell them."

As a Philly native, the story of Army CPL Kevin McCloskey inspired me to tweet this thread to ask for help --
2/ Kevin McCloskey grew up in Tacony, PA and joined the military when he was 18. At the age of 20, driving in a convoy with the 506th Infantry Regiment (4th Brigade), 101st Airborne Division, in Logar Province, Afghanistan, his vehicle hit an IED and he lost both his legs.
3/ When Kevin returned home to Philly, he received a hero's welcome. He still remembers the day vividly and knows the people of our great city were ready and willing to help him.

It may be days or weeks before you learn the fate of your property or are able to return. If you are insured, don't wait to contact your insurance company and establish a claim. This is for two reasons: 2/
First, your policy likely provides coverage for the duration of the evacuation (and sometimes beyond as was our case b/c of loss of use of our home). Some insurance policies will expense a set amount of $$ per day. Others want receipts. Some will front you cash. 3/

There is a veritable news blackout on the MA explosions.
@CNN is 100% #Florence (not that it's not a major story) and @maddow is Manafort.
Local Boston news reports evacuations throughout Lawrence, South Lawrence, Andover, North Andover, Merrimack. All schools will be closed.

Although initial reports asserted the explosions were related to Columbia Gas, expanded reports required evacuations no matter what gas company was used.
There were, at 9pm EST, more than 70 fires reported. 38 Fires extinguished in Andover alone, with 17 additional gas leaks.
2/
Here's what should concern all residents: Lawrence, South Lawrence, Andover and North Andover leaders say there is no timeline on when residents can return.

Why is that?
