Raab said "The first priority of the UK in negotiating our withdrawal from the EU was to reach agreement on the rights of our citizens."

A brief reminder about how much of a priority we were. 1/

"That includes the 3.5 million EU citizens that live in the UK and are valued members of their communities and play an integral part in the life of this country."

It depends what you mean with "valued". As long as we can be milked for taxes? 2/

"Likewise, the approximately one million UK nationals who currently live in the EU are equally valued by their host countries and communities."

There is zero chance @BritishInEurope can continue lives as before if Brexit happens 3/

theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
"The agreement reached on citizens’ rights will allow EU citizens in the UK and UK nationals in the EU to live their lives broadly as they do now."

Ahem. Like Commonwealth citizens now? Hopefully they won't change the rules 4/

"and will enable families who have built their lives in the EU and UK to stay together."

Well, let's hope so....British who are married to non-EU citizens beg to differ 5/

"The most important next step will be to provide a continued right of residence for those citizens."

We certainly don't want situations like this one: 6/

theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/a…
"EU citizens lawfully residing in the UK on the 31st of December 2020 will be able to stay."

You mean like non-EU commonwealth citizens with indefinite leave to remain? It's not really indefinite...Story below has happy ending. Many others don't 7/

"And this month, the Home Office published further details about how EU citizens and their families can obtain settled status in the UK."

Better switch to Android now! 8/

theguardian.com/politics/2018/…
"And that statement confirms that the Settlement Scheme will be simple and straightforward for EU citizens and their families to secure their long-term status in this country."

Simple, straightforward, hopefully quick? 9/

theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/a…
"The Bill will ensure EU citizens can rely on the rights set out in the Withdrawal Agreement, and enforce them in UK courts."

Like that "handful" of wrongfully, unlawfully deported number of Windrush generation British citizens? 10/

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politi…
"It will also establish an independent monitoring authority to oversee the UK’s implementation of the deal on citizens’ rights, providing further reassurance to citizens."

Better not make any mistakes and hope HO don't make mistakes 11/

Postscript: the task of registering >5 million citizens, many of whom never worked (children, carers) is unprecedented.
The UK home office is designed to be incompetent. There is simply no possible world where this won't lead to tragedies, split families.
