1/ Thread. On data, I’ve seen what Lindays cites below, and I’ve also seen stories that cite other facts, including costs to the health care system richmond-news.com/news/6-2-milli…. The question is....
2/ What is the tolerance that we have in Canada for the establishment of this type of industry? I would like to see it nipped in the bud, because it is an abuse of our system. That said, we can likely do so by first exploring policies that deter people from starting said industry
3/ Point being, it’s okay to talk about solutions to a problem. I’m not sure anyone in Canada would argue this is something that we should let continue, even though it’s a practice seems to largely restricted to Richmond at present, likely because business has set up there.
4/ “THE NUMBER IS LOW SO DO NOTHING” argument seems weak - I don’t like to see taxpayers stuck with a $1M bill (richmond-news.com/news/6-2-milli…) for people who have come to Canada for the sole purpose of having their baby and returning back home.
