so, i was listening to some new (to me) @Amaranthemetal stuff on Tidal

they don't really do filler tracks like lots of bands, so i click on a single, presumably from an upcoming album, which, fuck yeah about that too! anyway

mere seconds in, my brain already has two conclusions
t+2, yesss, this song is my favorite kind of Amaranthe

t+13 "ohh right i haven't seen Attack on Titan in ages, how behind am i?"

there is 100% chance this song will be a candidate for the intro piece on any action animes in production. the arrangement and pacing is *textbook*
it's great example of the "female vocalist+symphonic/powermetal" subgenre; great example of Amaranthe; totally epic. and also the exact manner of epicness aligns so precisely with the music chosen for intros on things like AoT that it immediately begs to be used for it haha
aaahaha no surprise someone's already made an AMV. p much mandatory

i'll link that one but fyi there's a world of difference between ~125kbps opus audio and the lossless copy triggering my tweets. to hear it properly, stream from tidal / pull a torrent

eh, the audio in that AMV has clearly been through at least one lossy transcode, it sounds even worse than the tiny file on @Amaranthemetal's channel. if you're sticking to the youtubes then this version's quite a bit crisper
**For anyone who prefers to hear what they actually produced and are unsatisfied with diaper-loose facsimiles squeezed out of a youtube potato, here is a mixed-artist genre compilation thing I found. Amaranthe's "Army of the Night" is track 09 on CD 2:

goo.gl/b3DhmA
haha wtf. okay, so--per my policy, i vet my links. thus, "Army of the Night" is there, the torrent works, it is proper FLAC etc

this also means i have a 2-disc power metal compilation i can delete. but first, i notice track 01 on disc 2 is an Epica song i haven't heard yet. ...
so I go to pull up whatever album it's from in Tidal but before I can look for it I am greeted by Epica's most recent release from a couple months ago

baader-meinhof strikes again!
(or it's retrocausal meme magick. in which case we all have me to thank for @Epica doing a whole CD covering AoT music and you're welcome)
anyone with talent covering AoT music is always welcome (what up, @imPelleK) bc while the original tracks are super anthemic and totes great, they also happen to be nearly unlistenable

how can this be? well

the official AoT OST is mastered hotter than fucking *Stadium Arcadium*
wait, correction, I'm thinking of Californication. THAT was the RHCP album released at the height of the loudness wars

point is, as painful as RHCP production was in '99, at least RHCP wasn't aiming for zero headroom *in a genre that builds long sections atop double-pedal bass*
