The experience of the aftermath of center-left governance - in Brazil, in the US, in the UK, and elsewhere - shows that it's pointless to try and soften capitalism, to redistribute wealth without redistributing power.
The property-owning class always reasserts itself, violently if need be, with the aid of media power and economic power. They will sabotage a center-left government and then undo whatever progress was made.
Meanwhile, center-left policy provides no basis for resistance and, in some cases, actively alienates the working classes from themselves and each other.
We saw this in the US with Obamacare - a policy that tries to fix America's healthcare crisis by subjecting the uninsured to a bureaucratic and atomizing process which leaves some in the cold and inconveniences everyone else.
Means-testing, public-private "partnerships", consumption, GDP, and "class mobility" as markers of success for left-populist governance... all this shit has to go
Brazil's Workers Party was emblematic of this. We need to stop thinking of getting people out of poverty in terms of getting them credit cards or cars; we need to think of ending poverty in terms of changing people's power relations within their world.
Oh, and: Canada, this is your future if you don't manage to get a tapeworm trained on radical politics to infiltrate Justin Trudeau's brain.
