When talking about how the Clinton's policies exacerbate the immigration crisis she wants to crackdown on, the example is usually Libya and other Middle Eastern destabilization campaigns. (+)

Rarely mentioned, however, is the 2009 Honduran coup, which she supported with the full weight of the US Department of State.
This coup created the very conditions that has forced many to leave the country and join the now famous 'caravan' making its way to the US. (+)
The 2009 coup has not only contributed to the current migration wave, but also plunged Honduras into a crisis it has not yet overcome. It also created a large scale political crisis in Latin America, with regional powers siding with the ousted Zelaya against the US. (+)
The Honduran coup is often thought to as the first salvo on - and laboratory for - the series of soft coups that have been occurring in Latin America - invariably removing left-populist governments in favor of more US-aligned ones. (+)
These usually happen within the institutional and legal framework - as opposed to the Latin American military coups of the 20th century. Paraguay and Brazil suffered similar processes ever since, with tragic consequences for the latter: the ascension of far right Bolsonaro.
