Stephen Barclay (Brexit Secretary - easy to forget in this revolving door department): "To date, we have laid before Parliament more than 220 statutory instruments out of a target of 700." He also suggests that's a good pace. Reality says otherwise...

The scary thing is, if you visit the page above and then scroll down to the section that shows the number of statutory instruments processed per week, it's a slow climb through rolling hills then a sudden rocket spike into the sky. So the scrutiny time (which was already in the
single-digit minutes/instrument) must be down to basically nothing at all. Chunks of EU legislation being nodded into UK law, some tailored or amended. If I had to guess, there's *nobody* in Parliament who knows the entirety of what's been allowed to pass near-unscrutinised.

Watching today's PMQs I cannot believe this story isn't the headline everywhere, on every news program & newspaper

The UK Prime minister is blackmailing the country with her #Brexit deal, and we're letting it happen

2) repeatedly in PMQs the PM was asked "will you rule out the chaos of No Deal" & her only response was "if you dont like it, vote for my deal"

No discussion, no other options. Deal held back deliberately for no reason other than to scare MPs & the country into submission
3) this is outrageous, it's a complete contempt of democratic principles. By a PM who has the absolute thinnest mandate possible.

Never elected in her own party, lost majority in a GE, propped up with a cash bribe to the DUP, with a deal that's universally hated.

Lest we forget, @piersmorgan who, had it not been for insider trading and posting fake torture photos, would probably still be a UK newspaper editor, is at the centre of the UK's toxic relationship with Europe.
The UK media, with the likes of @piersmorgan at the helm, created lie after lie to perpetuate the us vs them narrative, faux controversy to sell newspapers.

He uses the same schtick on here, saying controversial things to try to gain notoriety.
Essentially, the @piersmorgan project is focused on vanity - his.

The ECJ expedites the decision on the #Brexit case - and will publish a judgment before Parliament votes. So is it ... a political court? (Thread)
Courts fulfill a function - protecting the rule of law. Sometimes they need to act quickly to do so. A UK court, a German court, a French court can issue a ruling lightening-fast if things are going badly - think: arrest, extradition etc.
The Scottish court here argues that a declaratory decision is needed to inform MPs about what the law says. That was a UK court.

THREAD: Today's events in Westminster - which relate to the process and not the substance of Brexit - do not change the fundamental mess and chaos of Brexit. The UK is heading for a bad Brexit deal but its not a done deal - a lot will happen between now and the Autumn. /1
Its disappointing the so called "Grieve 2" amendment did not pass this afternoon (I,of course, voted for it) but significant that Ministers were forced to climb down and issue a statement acknowledging Parliament's vital role at the end of the process. /2
There are still 5 #Brexit related Bills still to make their way through Parliament which are legally binding and amendable: Customs Bill; Trade Bill; Fisheries Bill; Agriculture Bill; and, Immigration Bill. There will also be a huge number of statutory instruments to pass too. /3

1) Clegg - a thread
There's a lot of flack going around about Clegg "propping up Tories" & "enabling austerity". Let's look at this with our reality glasses on because imho this is an example of why tribalism is killing our political system.
2) firstly, coalitions are not unusual, in fact they are the norm in many countries. Entering into a coalition is just what happens in PR Democracies. We'll probably have a few more over the next few years. So entering a coalition is not "propping up" but a solution
3) attacking a party for entering a coalition is not a mature or reasoned approach to how hung parliaments work, if this was the norm no PR Democracy would ever get a Government

LDs are in coalition with multiple Labour groups at local level, and no one talks about "propping up"
