Apple's sales wobble and Facebook's year of hell are just the start: as I said in Postcapitalism - rent-seeking tech monopolies don't really have a long term business model. Apple's lucky it makes real things, not the commodity of thought control...
... I've been thinking for months that my iPhone SE, crap though the battery and camera are, simply does not need upgrading to an overpriced slab of fragile glass...
... and if that thought occured to me, maybe it is going to occur to millions of ppl in developing countries...
...just like the investment banks in 08 the current tech monopolies will be begging to be broken up, regulated or nationalised. To survive they will need new hybrid forms of corporate ownership...
... where data as a public good, a public ID registry are combined with state aid and industrial policy to protect/ boost the real entrepreneurship and engineering skill. Anybody thought about this? Oh wait...
