Concerning #WalterOnnoghen, the #CJN of Nigeria, I remembered an article written by the ebullient & brilliant @Naijavote about the parallel link between our decadent society & the corruption that thrives in the judiciary. This was many years ago in @THISDAYLIVE Law.
Thread: 👇
I had a lengthy argument with my late Mom, sister & brother-in-law about the core issue of that article, which was how our society created all her beasts & demons & certainly deserved the consequent corrupt & visionless leadership. #WalterOnoghen #ChiefJusticeOfNigeria
@Naijavote asked (not in her exact words though), "Where do #CorruptJudges come from?" She said that they were first 'unscrupulous & corrupt lawyers'. She also asked where those unscrupulous & corrupt lawyers came from. Her answer was that they were the bad & cheating students.
She asked again where the 'bad & cheating students' came from. They were from dysfunctional or immoral families (not her exact description). Part of what I took away from that section of the article was that the family is an important pillar in any society.
#CJN #CorruptJudges
This brings me to the #Onoghen issue. The pillars that hold Nigeria together all seems to have given in. Our present realities are the seed we sown decades back. The key institutions that should hold our democracy together are all decrepit.
The 1st & 3rd Republics were aborted by Military. The Executive was the albatross of the 2nd Republic. The Legislature is the indisputable black sheep of this 4th Republic, despite criminalities perpetrated by several Governors, Ministers, Head of Agencies & the Civil Service.
We have always known that our #Judiciary is irredeemably corrupt. We know of the criminal & incompetent lawyers. We know of unethical court clerks. We know that many #NigerianJudges are scoundrels who trade judgements to the highest bidder & deprive victims of deserved justice.
There has never been any SERIOUS scrutiny of the criminals at the bench & bar until @MBuhari's coming. The #TempleOfJustice in Nigeria is manned by puns of our degenerate political class. Now, Heads of the @NigBarAssoc & @SupremeCourtNg are facing trials for bribery & lying.
I don't know if it has ever been worse. The 1st among our lawyers is an alleged briber & presently in the dock, at same period our #SupremeCourtPresident is also presumed to be a #Liar, #Corruptor of the #TempleOfJustice & has potentially been subjected to blackmails by thieves.
I am ashamed for all the SANs & Lawyers who showed up at the #CCT for the #CJN today. They are all opportunistic Carpetbaggers & bootlickers. Their names should be pinned to a wall reserved for #TraitorsOfNigeria. Where were they during the #JusticeSalamiSaga?
Now, the #CJN is further entrapped to return favours to these conniving enemies of our country, who pounded us into coma by their impunity. How could #JusticeOnoghen blamed amnesia for non-declaration of several hundreds of thousands of foreign currencies in his accounts?
His traducers are clutching to technicality over the Constitution of Nigeria. The #NgajiwaRuling by the #CourtOfAppeal that they claimed as the new legal procedure, is a criminal concoction for the protection of corrupt Judges, in the judicial ambush of our Constitution.
Truth is that we may never be able to nail the crooked Walter Onoghen. His allies may prevail against the system. I am pained because this man is the #ChiefJusticeOfNigeria. The @MBuhari Govt tried to stop him but the ethnic jingoist & political marauders won that battle.
It is clear beyond doubt that the Nigerian elites are the major enablers of the rot in this land. My prayer is that @OfficialAPCNg wins next month election, retain legislative control & reform the Judiciary. #GodBlessNigeria
