Another pt to consider is that Stone-Corsi-Credico just represent one narrow line of effort in a broader conspiracy w/ Russia. We know all about it b/c Stone's public. (Remember Cohen/Flynn both provided info material to core of the SCO investigation; that's not about this).1/
Here's what I think happened. There were clear links and relationships est b/w the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. But when Russia decided to use WikiLeaks as a cutout to release the emails the Trump campaign lacked good links to WikiLeaks. Who c/d help est links to WikiLeaks? 2/
In walks Roger Stone. In other words, Stone is simply developing a way for the Trump campaign to not have to work through the Russians to coordinate w/ WikiLeaks. Why do this? B/c working through middlemen is annoying! 3/
Also worth noting that the Russians didn't just delete all the content they stole when they used WikiLeaks. They still possessed the emails as well as "DNC Analytics"(!) which have tremendous value to the Trump campaign. Did the Russians just sit on that? Doubtful. 4/
So my guess on the legal question - and I'm not a lawyer! - is that to bring a broader conspiracy charge was going to take you down a path you don't want to go down until the end.
