The United States is in the midst of an historic surge in oil production. This is a bigger story with global implications than most people realize.
Implications: a) shifts global balance of power away from OPEC b) lowers price pressure c) makes auto fuel efficiency a harder sell to many consumers d) lowers US manufacturing costs as fuel cost is important variable e) real environment consequences
I saw the environment implications first-hand in North Dakota in November, as oil production has surged. So has flaring of associated natural gas and methane leaks.
