25% of world's population live under unilateral coercive sanctions (deemed contrary to international law by the UN and akin to generalised economic war). Fascinating interview with Idriss Jazairy on such sanctions and their impact on human rights - ...
... equally fascinating is the report to the UN General Assembly on "Negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the
enjoyment of human rights' - documents-dds-ny.un.org/doc/UNDOC/GEN/… - with emphasis on the immoral use of "blockades", the modern equivalent of a siege.
e.g. Venezuela sanctions harm human rights of innocent people, UN expert warns - ohchr.org/en/NewsEvents/… ... these forms of unilateral sanctions are "illegal and immoral forms of coercion" - ohchr.org/en/NewsEvents/… ... just expect attacks on the UN by self interested parties.
It must only be a matter of time before war crimes are brought against nations using unilateral coercive acts without lawful purpose, proportionality and avoidance of harm to the human rights of ordinary persons.
