Did you know that there are hundreds and hundreds of new Statutory Instruments aimed at transposing EU law into UK law? And did you know that a lot of them appear to have been cloned using a faulty photocopier that makes changes along the way?

Because there's obvious stuff, like amending references to the EU and to the UK being part of the EU. But then there's sneaky stuff, like limitations that will apply after Brexit that don't exist right now because we're EU members.

For example, we will no longer be part of the legally binding mutual assistance scheme that requires EU members to come to each other's help if there's a catastrophic interruption to a country's gas supplies.

That may sound like an esoteric consideration, but if you sample a few of the SIs at random and read the Explanatory Memorandum that accompany them, you see real changes peppered all over them.

Another example: Animal Welfare (conditions of transport, slaughter etc. of animals). After Brexit, the UK will still recognise certificates of competence issued by EU states, but they will *no longer be able to carry out enforcement action* (2.16)

And so on, and so on. So while everyone's focused on the Big Bads (queues at ports, medicine shortages etc.) thousands of things we used to benefit from as EU members are being oh so quietly taken away from us...
