There's been some talk about instability for Canada’s Veterans recently.

While there have been some changes to the political leadership over the last month, what’s remained constant is the Liberal government’s support for Canada’s Veterans.

And let me tell you why...
1/
In 2015 we heard from Veterans that they weren’t getting the support & respect they deserved.

They wanted a government that would give back to those who had given so much in service to Canada.

That's why the Liberals promised more compensation, more choice, and more support.
2/
Because after 10 years of the Conservatives' cheap platitudes and failures, Veterans didn’t feel they could receive the help they needed.

They felt forgotten.

And understandably so:

Budgets were cut.

Offices were closed.

The obligation of the people and Government of Canada to show just and due appreciation to members and Veterans for their service to Canada was not met.

But that was the Conservative’s prerogative: to save money by cutting support for Canada’s Veterans.

When the Liberals came to power in 2015, things changed. Quickly.

The Veterans Affairs Budget was increased to offer greater benefits and services to Veterans and their families.
10/
Front line staff were re-hired to make sure Veterans got those benefits and services.
11/
And the area offices where Veterans would go to get help were re-opened.

And the Liberals brought in a lot more:
- Education and Training Benefit (up to $80k)
- Career Transition Services
- Caregiver Recognition Benefit ($1,000/month)
- Veterans Emergency Fund
- Centre of Excellence on PTSD

The Liberal government is also making good on their promise to re-establish a pension for life for ill and injured Veterans.

Simply put: Veterans are better off now than they were before.
15/
Of course there’s still a lot more to be done.

The government must address the issue of backlogs for benefits and services.

And they've committed to doing that.

But the Liberals have a good record to stand on when it comes to Canada's Veterans.

Because they want to see every Veteran the same way all Canadians do: financially secure, safely housed, in good physical and mental health, and proud of their legacy.
