The Habit Of Excellence

(Short Thread)

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

- Will Durant
This is one of my favorite quotes of all time, and something I work to incorporate deeply into my current worldview
It is through consistent, repetitive action that we are able to move, ever so slowly, up the ladder of mastery

And that is all excellence ever was and all it ever will be

Mastery
Mastery of self

Mastery of craft

Mastery of anything you choose to dedicate a certain degree of focus and attention to over a long enough span of time

This is something I touch on regularly via my newsletter

So it stands to reason that the big things are not the big things at all

The big things are, ultimately, the little things

And this is where most of us seem to get tripped up
We focus so intently on the bigger picture

On all we're going to do

But seldom do we see the details making up the bigger picture that determine how we're going to do
Not seeing the forest for the trees, in other words

Because it's the how behind our why's that leads us to accomplishing either mediocrity or excellence

And excellence, ultimately, is the only thing worth accomplishing
Hope you enjoyed this short thread
