This chunky roll is a plan for the Highland Railway Company’s line from Invershin to Golspie. It was drawn in 1874.
When fully unrolled, this plan measures approximately *75.5 feet*...

Erm...

Let's just say that again...

*75.5... FEET*

Which makes it the longest item in our @natlibscotmaps collections. Obviously.

On #InternationalWomensDay let's talk about Williamina Fleming (1857-1911).

Williamina was born in Dundee, the daughter of a carver and gilder with premises in the Nethergate. She left school when she was 14 and became a pupil-teacher.

In 1877, Williamina married James Orr Fleming, an accountant and fellow Dundonian. She worked as a teacher for a short while, before the couple emigrated to America (specifically Boston, Massachusetts) when Williamina was 21.

It's been a little over a month since I got back from #LivingLaVidaLagos and even though I am still missing it like crazy (someone yell "like CRAZY!"), I feel ready to share some of my experiences; the good, the bad & the neutral.

Lagos, THANK YOU for a truly wonderful time ❤.
One of the best things that I did? I went to the opera 💃! Y'all, did you know there's opera in Lagos? And I don't mean 'good enough for Lagos' opera. I mean, proper, 'beautiful, well-trained instruments', opera! I watched #DonGiovanni at the #MusonCenter.
I also loooved Fela's Shrine. I actually went twice; on the day I arrived & again for #Felabration2018. You guys, it was so much fun! I ended up abandoning my people and going up front to dance with the King!

Ok. So here goes an attempt to summarise where May is leading the U.K. with her Chequers plan.

First, it can’t of escaped anyone even remotely interested in politics that the Chequers proposal is universally hated by all sides. 1/
Labour have announced they’ll vote against it (they’ll vote against any deal as it’s an opportunity to force an election) so with a minority government the PM needs a deal with full party unity. This is where she’s made a huge mistake. 2/
Before Chequers, she had around 8 guaranteed “rebels” to worry about, the EU withdrawal act passed through parliament relatively unscathed showing the unity in the original position set out in Lancaster house (an amazing effort by @SteveBakerHW as well getting that through) 3/

Congressman Jeff Denham & several other RINOs are looking to get enough GOP members to sign a Discharge petition which would force a vote on a Queen of the Hill rule which would allow a vote on 4 amnesty bills.

As of yesterday Congressman Jeff Denham has 23 GOP signatures for his discharge petition and believes to be close to acquiring the rest.

If the Queen of the Hill is enacted, 4 Amnesty Bills would be voted on with the highest vote count being the one that passes. This process would likely produce a bill that a majority of Democrats and a minority of Republicans support.

Translation: A crappy bill.
