No I won't be going on the sodding march tomorrow in spite of the fact I voted REMAIN and here's why: - 1. I respect that many of my fellow Lab comrades voted to LEAVE & that any move we as a party make must reflect that as well as the REMAIN side.
2. That is why it took 6 hours at conference to reach a consensus around what our strategy should be on this issue. Sadly, there are some MPs in our party who wish to ignore conference & take up either extreme LEAVE or REMAIN positions.
3. So far these PV marches have consisted of one speaker after another not understanding our strategy or misrepresenting it & most are viciously anti socialist, so I have to ask myself why any Labour MP would join them never mind our Deputy!
4. We need to TRY and get past the 1st hurdle first which was to get a soft BREXIT along Labour's lines as laid out in our manifesto. there's every chance of an indicative vote now next week we own it to ALL our voters to try this consensus way first as agreed at conference.
5. Contrary to what some of these would be marchers say Corbyn campaigned hard for remain while admitting some reform of the EU was desperately needed. He persuaded many who had their doubts to vote REMAIN. I trust him to do what's best for the workers of this country.
6. The mere fact that Tom Watson who is saying he will back May's deal as long as we get a PV on it and is going along with the TIGs should alert people to what this is really about!
7. Lastly, this PV is a MASSIVE gamble in this volatile situation. We don't KNOW that a PV will yield a remain result & we would then be stuck with a BAD DEAL! If we must have a divisive PV let's at least get a better deal on the list of choices first!
