BREAKING: @MagicRockBrewCo has been sold to Lion, the Australian food and drinks company that bought Fourpure last year, for an undisclosed fee. Full story to follow
Richard Burhouse, managing director and co-founder of Magic Rock, says that “Lion is not going to rip the heart out of the brands, they can help us do it better”
Lion Global markets managing director Matt Tapper has not ruled out more UK purchases: “We’re going to keeping our eyes and ears open and if there’s an opportunity, then who knows?”

Richard Burhouse added that Lion’s “knowledge and people” will help Magic Rock continue to grow: “I don’t have all the skills required for the next step and I don’t want the brewery to wither on the vine. We need help, and Lion offer that”
As part of the deal, Burhouse will have to remain with Magic Rock for at least four years, but he plans to be there for the foreseeable future. “I’m a Huddersfield lad born and bred and I’m not planning to move. It’s the perfect place for me”
‘I spent a lot of time in the early days being infatuated about feedback on the internet and it’s become apparent to me as we’ve grown that that’s not a responsible way to act. I’ve got people’s livelihoods on my conscience. It’s not about pleasing people on the internet'
Here's the full story of how Magic Rock became the latest craft brewery to fall to a multinational brewer: imbibe.com/news-articles/…
Rich Burhouse says Lion's offer was not the first from a major multinational: "We’d had some other approaches over the last year but they didn’t appeal like this one"
