1. I started to write some thoughts on Barr and in the process I wanted to make sure of my authority. I first looked at the Rosenstein Mueller order and it wasn't there. I then looked at the redacted supplement in Manafort's EDVA case and it left me stumped. Where did I get it?
2. And then it occurred to me, it wasn't from Mueller's orders. It was from Barr's Sunday night letter. He described Mueller authority that I missed was beyond the order & not in the Manafort redacted supplement. Perhaps Barr disclosed what was under the very large redaction.
3. So what was I looking for? Today's Barr letter left me pondering about 3rd parties. And that's the part Barr changed.
The original Rosenstein Order says:
". . . any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of
4. President Donald Trump."
But Barr wrote Sunday: " . . a primary consideration for the Special Counsel's investigation was whether any Americans - including individuals associated with the Trump campaign - joined the Russian conspiracies to influence the election . .
5. I think "any Americans" is new. Could mean any number of things if I'm right. Perhaps was from Manfort supplement or a screw-up disclosed in error. Actually find it heartening to know that we've all been under scrutiny. And it's a clever way to disclose it. Or it's a lie.
6. But one thing we do know with absolute certainty,
"any Americans" will likely include some 3rd parties. 😎
