Put that on the table! Stop taking stuff off before negotiations even begin. That’s only way we will ever get rational, reasonable public health - if the alternative to a buy-in system that retains market elements is full Monty nationalization. This is diff bt Chuck and Nancy.

The compromise that ultimately results from negotiation is midway between what the two parties come in with, as their initial ask. If you come in from the start with the compromise you want, as Dems have naively developed a culture of doing, you have surrendered.
With that posture, the compromise won’t be a true compromise - it will always be a slightly-altered version of the other side’s original ask. There is a time to show willingness to compromise in negotiations, and it’s very close to the end, not the beginning.
Although I twice voted for Obama, I also criticize him for doing Obamacare the Chuck way, not the Nancy way.
