Trump & Putin will keep trying to make public the unacceptable relationship they already have in private. Summits and lifting/evading sanctions, & ignoring Putin's attacks on the US.
Putin might give up his support of Maduro in exchange for the US abandoning Ukraine. It fits the “spheres of influence” philosophy he promotes against universal values, human rights, and self-determination.
But why should Putin give up anything if Trump keeps giving him everything anyway? One reason is to give Trump something he can call a foreign policy win to help his reelection, especially after the continued North Korea humiliation.
Putin has dreamed of a US president as selfish, corrupt, & transactional as he is, one who doesn’t care about principles or national interests. Now he has one in his pocket and he can’t waste it. He must hurry before election day.
