The thinking that says Biden is the only candidate who can beat Trump is the same thinking that got us Tim Kaine. No shade to Kaine - he seems like a great guy. But you could see the focus-grouped thinking behind that VP choice:

...in other words, Kaine was Biden 2.0. Imagine if Hillary had chosen somebody exciting & unexpected: Julian Castro, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren (who was much talked about for VP at the time). Imagine how energized the base would have been if Clinton had been bold.

Safe did not get us Obama. And Biden did not get us Obama. Biden just happened to hitch his wagon to a once in a lifetime star. Now is not the time for the same safe thinking that got us Kaine (& Gore, Kerry & Dukakis.) Now is the time to be bold, brave & unexpected.
