This is an honest question. Is there a reason why the House cannot be ready hold contempt votes right away when witnesses do not meet their deadlines for compliance? Why, for instance, are we still waiting on the McGahn vote? Why not be ready to hold Hope Hicks in contempt now?
To be clear: I’m looking for an actual reason. Not “They’re cowards” or some version of a joke or conspiracy theory. Are House Democrats following a specific rule that dictates that they wait a certain length of time? Are they giving these witnesses leeway for a specific reason?
