My R package vtable is now updated to version 0.5.0 on CRAN, with two big improvements! Improved speed, and a new function labeltable() #Rstats (thread)
First, if you've ever fed a big data set with lots of labeled values to vtable, you know it can get very slow if the labels aren't perfectly aligned. I've sped that up a LOT, and also it now defaults to a simpler and faster still variant.
Second, labeltable! This function creates an easily viewable table (like vtable) that shows, for each value of a given variable, the labels of it. Or, the associated values of other variables.
Have a labeled variable from haven or sjlabelled? Feed it in and you can actually see, miracle of miracles, how the labels and values link up in your data (unused labels are moved to the end of the table) 
You can show how each value of your variable corresponds to values of other variables as well. For example, did you turn your year and month data into a single integer time variable? What year/month was "5" again? labeltable!
Can show some compact and easily readable cross-tabulation information, when you're more interested in whether observations exist than how many there are.
Born of necessity while working with some big haven-read labeled data sets, lining up values to labels over and over. Anyway, that's all. Working on another package at the moment as well, so looking forward to that.
