Nour, Rusul & Zahraa are from Mosul. Their house was destroyed during war on ISIS.

Today, they put on their best clothes and came to Erbil with their family for a night out. 💞
And my last photo is of beautiful Nawal. I promised I'll publish it.

She was so proud of her headband that her mom got her in Mosul to celebrate #Eid.

She looked adorable.

1- When Raqqa was the capital of ISIS, the Syrian city was every day in the news.

But 2 yrs after ISIS lost Raqqa, it is largely forgotten now.

I went there this month. I saw small signs of recovery but it'll take ages to rebuild. Photo thread.

2- Last time I visited Raqqa, it was during Coalition/SDF attack on ISIS in city.

Back then, lots of fighting, bombing &hardly any civilian. Now destruction still overwhelming but people return, rebuild lives around rubble like this snack bar Al Hadri.

3- The destruction in Raqqa is really overwhelming but at least some buildings have been renovated such as this hospital, the yellowish building in the middle with the cars infront of it.

1- For over a month, I've been in Northern Syria.

Despite the poverty & the threat of war, the people here (Kurds & Arabs) have been so generous to me. Its beyond what u imagine.

In this thread, I'll post few photos of some great meals we were invited to. Look at this.

2- Half rice, half groats. And sheep meat on top cooked to perfection.
3- It was the first time I meet this family.

But they refused to let us leave their house without treating us to Mloukhiye and rice fatta.

1/ I am in Raqqa, #Syria. Search team here found bodies of 5 men wearing orange "execution suits" in #ISIS mass grave.

Identities unknown. Team leader tells me: Might be missing journalists, activists, etc.

2/ As my report is in Arabic, l'll explain in this thread in English the details regarding the 5 bodies found in orange execution suits.

I visited the #ISIS mass grave close to Raqqa, spoke on & off camera to members of search team, head of team & forensic pathologist.

The 5 bodies found in ISIS mass grave in Raqqa are:

-All males.
-All dressed in #ISIS trademark orange "execution suits".
-All handcuffed (plastic handcuffs)
-All shot in the back of the head.

(1) As a mental health therapist, I've been thinking a lot about loneliness and why it seems to affect so many of us out there, as well as what to do about it.
(2) I've had periods in my own life where, even though I was surrounded by people, I felt completely isolated. Sometimes I would even be sitting in a room with people who knew me and I would feel this deep sense of isolation and "outsiderness." It sucks. And it's common.
(3) In my therapy practice I have clients come in talking of loneliness too. It's one of the most common things that comes up in sessions--successful, competent people, even people with families and partners--feeling isolated and very, very lonely. It's pandemic. It's everywhere.

1) Important: The #KDP has rejected sensible recommendations from the International Crisis Group @CrisisGroup on returning stability to #Sinjar so that the #Yazidi people can return home, rebuilding, and have a future. This affair deserves comment.

2) The @CrisisGroup is one of the few analyst entities to produce reasonable suggestions that, in fact, reflect what the Yazidis have been demanding for the past 4 ½ years. They recently recommended that the #Yazidi people choose their own administrative leaders for #Sinjar.
3) Dindar Zebari (pictured in 1st tweet), whose lovely job it is to craft responses to the many reports from around the world that criticize KDP policy and HR record, responded, stating that Sinjar already has a mayor (qaymaqam)—Mahama Khalil—who has been elected by the people.
