This morning I find myself watching a documentary about the mangroves of South America. It's an area of 13,000 sq miles covering parts of Panama, Columbia, Ecuador & Peru. Like all of nature it and the wildlife it supports needs to be protected from us. 1/

I was watching as some kids were being taught in school about the importance of preserving the mangroves and protecting the wildlife. And of course all the kids were committed & enthusiastic about saving the planet. 2/

However as I watched them I knew that some of them will be faced with hardship that will make it difficult to live up to the commitments they made as a child. A father will be looking at a choice between illegal fishing or his children going hungry. 3/

And the reason will be that increasingly the land that used to support his community will be gone, bought by US corporations and turned into plan oil plantations, funded by bankers to buy bigger yachts. That is the reality. 4/

We operate under and economic system that concentrates wealth amongst the few. It ensures that a banker accumulates wealth to buy up swathes of land for palm oil production and that the locals remain poor and become poorer. 5/

There is now a increase in awareness about planetary destruction, the climate emergency. And gov & some business say good things with as little effect on profitability they can muster. 6/

But on the ground somewhere in South America, or the Philippines, or Uganda or India, these rape of the planet is out of sight. These people don't give a damn about the planet, they only give a damn about profit and fuck everyone else. 7/

As long as we continue to pursue this economic model we will see the continued destruction of the environment. That is a certainty. It is a machine designed to search for profit wherever it can. And it will. 8/

There are those that worship this machine. They believe in it more than they believe in a God. They believe it best orders the world. They are capitalist fundamentalists. That president is one. The Leave campaign are made up of them. The ERG are that, disciples of mammon. 9/

And they want a world country controlled only by people like them & the machine they praise. Let's be clear. It's a machine & as such it has no remorse, no emotion. It does not care about how many must die for it to succeed. It will exterminate millions without hesitation. 10/

Now think about some of the preachers of capitalist fundamentalism. Remember what I was saying about no remorse, no emotion? See what I mean. They are functionaries of ultra capitalism. And some would see the extermination of millions as "sad but necessary".. 11/

If you don't believe that then look at the rantings of some of them. You know who I'm talking about. Ultra capitalism is a faith to them and they are as blinkered as any other religious fanatic on the planet. 12/

And so, we must prevent them from burning the world. And there are two aspects to this.
1, yes we engage in environmental projects, we support initiatives, charities, we take personal responsibility, we get more efficient. 2, we redesign the economic model we live by. /13

In order to achieve the second point we must stop those that preach that doctrine and act for that machine. We must remove those policitians from power, the ultra right ultra capitalists, that president, his followers, the ERG & their fellow collaborators. 14/

Only when we have progressive politicians in power & we have control of the capitalist machine will we be able to stop environmental exploitation. It's not just a question of our commitment to the commitment of those kids. For many of them, it's about saving their lives. #FBPE ✌🏼
