This is not a new phenomenon, although it's good that it's getting attention. There are many ways to make cross-border censorship happen. This is just one of them. I had a piece I wrote about Turkey disappear, for example,
after lawyers (for the sleazy Turkish televangelist I wrote about) sent an e-mail to the hosting service of the site I wrote it for, claiming it was "defamatory." The hosting service told the site they had to take it down in 24 hours or the site would disappear.
My publisher caved immediately. (I quit.) This was about seven years ago, I think. It made me acutely aware of this problem. It wasn't the first time something like this had happened, either.

I liked this essay, and thought it raised points worth thinking about. There's an incoherence in it, though, in that its conceit is that the author is rigorously realistic, not ideological, about the nature of the world.
But his policy recommendations are pure fairy tale. He calls for us to "start from scratch" in our strategic thinking, which means "realizing that however inspiring the dreams of our elite are--
--those dreams will be stillborn if not grounded in both granular, local realities around the world and widespread public support at home that spans party lines—and that must be sustained over the long-term--

So he's denying that his administration is taking reasonable steps to protect the US against Russian disinformation and hacking? What exactly is he upset about?
The leaking of classified information?

Makes no sense. The NSC seems to have leaked the story deliberately, presumably to send a message to Moscow: If you get involved in the next election, your lights are going out.

That's an obvious, long-overdue message.
Strong signalling is critical to deterrence.

Having the capacity to do this means nothing unless we make it known that we have the capacity and make it clear that we will use if if provoked in specific ways. Leaking to the NYT is a form of signalling--

Amy Klobuchar now goes to college in Chapter 3: "From New Haven to Hyde Park." About college: "I assumed I'd go but no one gave me any specific advice" and where she'd go wasn't a big topic of discussion at home.
She wasn't sure where to go, so she selected eight schools at random. A few months later, she received acceptances at Yale, Dartmouth, and Brown. Neither of her parents wanted her to go to an Ivy--her dad thought $7,500 tuition was far too steep.
(Yes, it was another world.)

She managed to talk her dad into paying for Yale, with the help of her dad's boss, who was shocked at the thought she wouldn't go.

I'm going to go to bed shortly but I'm doing some editing, and the stuff I'm talking about with my contributor is stuff a lot of people could benefit from

So here's what I've learned about writing and argument in the last fifteen years or so
1) thesis, thesis, thesis

Biggest mistake you can make writing a long-from piece is failing to spell out your thesis clearly and early

People should understand why they are reading your piece and the core of your argument ASAP

Otherwise you're just talking
2) Attention getting devices: these are underused, especially in "serious" writing

It's like people get myopic and academic and forget that even serious writing must grab the reader's attention

There are many ways to grab your reader's attention

Pick one and use it

The Evidence Obtained Outside Cameras will not show any evidence of ‘tempering’ but other than license plates of dozens of diplomatic cars (Many with tinted windows-large trunks) with related time stamp, drivers Info, model/year: Nothing.
#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

#New PA cong. map increases D chance of winning the House majority by 4%. They only need a 6.8% generic ballot margin now (down from 7.7) to be favored.

Diff. will be closer to 10% in Nov when uncertainty from polls is ⬇️. Redraw is a very big deal.

One major reason the new PA map is such a big gain for Democrats is that it solidifies, not just tips, PA districts in Philly burbs. Also creates one additional vulnerable R district. (Easily seen in this map made by @JMilesColeman)
My forecasting model will have new PA map in the near future. This is not just a simple switch; it’s a coding redesign, restructuring of input, & drawing new geographic files. Takes a while (for me, a student).
