Canada Day?

You took my Mom at 6 years old. Put her and her siblings in residential school.

You took me away at birth and told her to get over it. Told her I would be better off with white people.

You withheld medical treatment to her and her family who lived in the Arctic

You said they drank too much. You said they shouldn't waste time and resources on a bunch of drunk Natives. Lies. They all worked. They all paid taxes. All paid for housing. We earned our keep there.

You withheld cancer treatment to my Mom's partner of 25 years. When he died, she spoke out. They blacklisted her. Stopped booking her medical appointments. Said there was no openings for her. You did that for several years.

You watched her slowly die, and did nothing to help. You told her ot would be her demise. She fought back.

You did the same to her peers and siblings. You said they "fell through the cracks".

Oh Canada.

You signed treaties.

"Till the rivers run dry".

Then you build dams to dry them up. Lots of them.

You dump your sewage and chemicals in our water. In your water. Then you fight in courts over the clean up.

You take our children by the thousands. Every year. You say they are not safe with us, then put them in places where they get abused and die.

You took me. I was abused.

You took my oldest. Gave her to a white family. Told me she would be better off with them.

Told me to get over it. Move on in life. Make more kids.

Your social workers said this to me. They said the same thing to my Mom. Same thing to thousands of us.

You say we enjoy "special privileges".

I wonder how white people would enjoy those same "special privileges".

We'll never know because you won't treat them like you treat us.
