BREAKING: U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman of New York denies Trump administration request to change legal team for #CitizenshipQuestion lawsuits in NY, calling the request "patently deficient"👇

2. Judge Furman is allowing an attorney who has left DOJ (Brett Shumate) and an attorney who has left DOJ's Civil Division (Alice LaCour) to withdraw from #CitizenshipQuestion lawsuits in NY.
3. But Judge Furman says every other DOJ attorney who wants to withdraw from #CitizenshipQuestion cases in NY has to submit signed & sworn affidavit that:

- provides "satisfactory reasons" for leaving at this stage of litigation
- confirms they'll comply with sanctions motions
4. In a footnote, Judge Furman writes: "In August 2018, lawyers from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York — “the office that normally represents the Government in this District” — withdrew as counsel for Defendants."
5. @ACLU's @dale_e_ho: “The Justice Department owes the public and the courts an explanation for its unprecedented substitution of the entire legal team ... The Trump administration is acting like it has something to hide, and we won’t rest until we know the truth.”

The #2020Census trial is about to begin a bit early. The attorneys are introducing themselves, and U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman has taken the bench.

Furman indicated that he will watch the video of the depositions of John Gore and Earl Comstock, which means that the footage will become public.
Late last night, Gore's deposition became available in transcript form, and it was revealed that Gore confirmed a citizenship question was "not necessary" to enforce the Voting Rights Act, which was Wilbur Ross's justification.

BREAKING: A federal judge in Washington ruled Monday that the Trump administration is violating its own policy by uniformly denying parole to asylum-seekers who have passed their “credible fear” interviews — a key step in the asylum process.
In the decision, the court sided with the immigrants who brought the class action and ordered the Trump administration to restore the practice of granting fair, individual parole hearings to asylum-seekers who have passed that initial threshold.
Prevailing at the parole hearing means that an asylum-seeker is released from detention and allowed to remain in the country pending a decision on their asylum petition, a process that can take several years.
