Has Sen @SenSasse been asked yet to comment on a) Trump's racist tweets b) the "send her back" chant c) Epstein's arrest & bail denial d) Mueller's testimony e) McConnell's blocking of election security bills? How does he do it?

@SenSasse When he was promoting his book a few months ago, he was interviewed regularly. The book "Them: .Why We Hate Each Other & How to Heal" and Sasse was uncritically described as a sane and moral, moderating force calling up to kinder, gentler time.

Then we’re riven by the President’s hate-filled attacks on young women of color in Congress & the mob like chant by supporters of his party and he’s not the go-to guy. No one asked Sasse “is the President racist? What is his role in spreading hate? How can we find a way to heal?”

During the Kavanaugh hearings @SenSasse said we need civics - more “Schoolhouse Rock.” This wk the Trump told young ppl that Art. II of the Constitution let’s the President “do whatever he wants.” And #Mueller testifies that the Pres asked aides to falsify docs. Again, no Sasse.

To his credit this Spring, @SenSasse became a leading voice on the need to investigate how/why Epstein was allowed to get a slap on the wrist frm Acosta after his arrest in FL. But when Epstein is arrested in NY 3wks ago & videos are released showing Epstein & Trump, no Sasse.

This is the abdication of leadership when the going gets tough. And people like Sasse are allowed to get away with a kind of “selective expertise”. They are permitted to w/draw from accountability when their lofty ideas and scolding admonishments are put to the test.
