The Eurocrats are of course more afraid that a #HardBrexit will succeed than that it will fails but are paralyzed by the fact that they played @theresa_may perfectly and now @BorisJohnson will have none of it. A fading Merkel and a deeply unpopular Macron are afraid to act. 4
The rational thing for the leaders of Europe to do is a do-over of a one-sided deal, but pride and stupidity are a very bad combination and it’s the mix of choice on the continent these days. The United Kingdom will thrive as it goes free market again. The EU, not so much. 5

I’m running an experiment yesterday and today: Not watching a minute of either debate live, but studying it only through my regular media diets: @washingtonpost @nytimes @wsj @thetimes the cable news channels @Twitter. Part one in the books (distrutbed by @Indians great trade). 1
I haven’t missed a key debate since 1976, but most Americans experience debates the way I am doing so yesterday and today. I’ll write up the results for @washingtonpost on Thursday for Friday or Saturday publication. But it’s a very different way to absorb politics. 2
The experiment has already revealed @BernieSanders and @ewarren are committed to over-the-cliff, election forfeiting positions, that @PeteButtigieg continues to build his appeal to the voters exhausted by @realDonaldTrump and that it is unlikely anyone else on stage survives. 3

I argue often w/ some conservatives about the “deep state” rhetoric. I don’t believe we have one. “Deep states” make people disappear in the night, monitor citizens, use blackmail and spies on citizens. We do have a permanent government though. 1 washingtonpost.com/opinions/globa…
This typically deeply-reported pierce by @IgnatiusPost quotes a few folks from w/i the IC’s permanent government. They are concerned about @RepRatcliffe not being an acceptable DNI. That is the president and the Senate’s job to judge, not the permanent government’s. 2
As Dr. Larry Arnn, president of @Hillsdale, has often said on my radio show and other places is that the fundamental question of the day is whether the government will rule the people or the people rule the government. It is supposed to be the latter. @RepRatcliffe is qualified.3

Thurs show will be on collapse of #TheResistance fantasy of impeachment brought about by today’s hearing. @realDonaldTrump now has opportunity to put it all to bed by simply repeating “No conspiracy, no collusion, no obstruction,” which is what majority of public has concluded.
If Dems (or any broadcast/print/social media outlet) continue to try and resurrect this fantasy, they’ll suffer terribly at polls or in ratings. The sad fiasco of today was that the Dems obliged SC Mueller to testify and results were awful for him. Ds will spin but no use.
The warning @SpeakerPelosi tried to give her back benchers and publicity-addicted chairmen went unheeded and @realDonaldTrump emerged not merely unscathed but stronger for today’s theatrics. #TheResistance may not know it, but it’s bleeding out on the impeachment fantasy.
