1. This is an excellent observation by @joshtpm. There's a very small faction of Democrats who think Obama was a catastrophe, a large chunk who love him, and a large chunk who love him but want to move on. The problem is personnel. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/obama-l…
@joshtpm 2. My premise, as someone who thinks Obama was a disaster, is that Obama systemically lied and had a group around him - call it the Bob Rubin mafia - who participated in those lies. This group sits at places like Amazon, Blackrock, Citi, #BigLaw, Brookings, and so forth.
@joshtpm 3. The Biden restoration is premised on the idea that we can just rerun the Obama Presidency with the Bob Rubin mafia executing different policies. But the Bob Rubin mafia is the problem. You cannot wish that problem away.
@joshtpm 4. Bernie is perhaps more honest, though not totally honest, about how bad the Obama administration really was. The Bob Rubin mafia loathes both Warren and Bernie. But while they hated Warren's policy, they cannot forgive Bernie's political challenge to Clinton in 2016.
@joshtpm 5. Most Dems don't want to point the finger at Obama, or at Bill Clinton, or at the Bob Rubin mafia, because they indict themselves. Three decades of offshoring, war and greed, endorsed and promoted by corrupt Democrats and the institutions they use to validate themselves.
@joshtpm 6. America is a shattered country. And not because of Trump. It is shattered because Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan endorsed shitty financier over our culture, Clinton and Bush doubled down on that, and Obama made the aristocracy they created quite explicit.
@joshtpm 7. To truly reckon with this horrific tragedy, that took a great democracy and turned it into a nation wracked with greed, suicide and despair, means personal introspection about our own place in the pecking order. Neither Dems nor Rs have shown a willingness to really do that.
@joshtpm 8. The Bob Rubin mafia is empowered because Dems confuse wisdom for intelligence. They think Harvard and McKinsey and Rhodes scholarships and Google sinecures represent wisdom, instead of social credentialing for smart elites who are often but not always sociopaths.
@joshtpm 9. So does the entire leadership of the party, left, right, and center. They don't admit the Clinton and Obama agendas were a catastrophe, and they don't admit the Clinton and Obama agenda has been endorsed by the average Democratic voter.
