Argyraspides (Silver Shields) were a division of the Macedonian army of Alexander the Great, who carried silver-plated shields. They were veterans, mostly over sixty, feared & revered due to their battle skills & experience.

The majority of the Alexander's Argyraspides who survived the wars of the Diadochi were sent by Antigonus I Monopthalmus in Arachosia/Khurasan and settled - with their families & their baggage train (result of forty years of plunder) - in the Hellenistic cities founded there. Image

John III Doukas Vatatzes (r. 1221–1254) settled many Cumans in the Empire to strengthen the borders in Anatolia. They became Christian together with their leader Sytzigan, whose name was Hellenized to Syrgiannes ("master John") when he was baptized.
His son or grandson Syrgiannes Palaiologos Philanthropenos (c. 1290 – 1334), whose mother was Eugenia Palaiologina, niece of Emperor Michael VIII became a Byzantine aristocrat and general. His sister, Theodora, also married Guy de Lusignan, later King of Armenian Cilicia.
This Syrgiannes was involved in the civil war between Emperor Andronikos II Palaiologos & his grandson Andronikos III. Became governor of Macedonia and Megas Dux. Switched sides several times & ended up conquering much of Macedonia for the Serbian ruler Stefan Dušan.

In 1082 Turkmen reached the prefecture of Pisidia, around the lake Pousgouse. The Greek population of the region barricaded in the islands of this lake. As no help appeared & the border 100km away, the ~6k islanders reached a modus vivendi with the Turkmen settled in the coast.
But in 1130 Emperor Ioannes Komnenus appeared with an army of 40k and defeated the Turks clearing the whole region of Pisidia from Turkmen nomads. However, people of the island refused to surrender & prepared for siege as the pro-Turkish party was the strongest inside the walls.
The Emperor tried to negotiate & after failure he ordered bombardment with his 29 huge trebuchets and a simultaneous attack by light infantry on boats. In the same day the island fortress was captured & the imperial flag raised after 48 years. The Turkophile leaders were executed

Tawagalawa is mentioned as the brother of the king of Ahhiyawa (Achaea=Mycenaean Greece) in a letter from the Hittite king Hattusili III, around 1250 BC. This name is possibly a Hittite representation of the Greek name Eteocles (Etewoklewes).
Attarsiya (possibly Atreus) was a "man from Ahhiya" that ca. 1400BC campaigned against a Hittite vassal, Madduwatta, in the Lukka Lands (Lycia). He finally withdrew from Anatolia after Hittite intervention, but later launched a campaign against Alashiya (Cyprus).
In 1430BC an anti-Hittite rebellion of Assuwa (22 cities incl. Taruisa(Troad)&Wilusiya(Ilion) with support from Ahhiyawa was defeated by the Hittite Empire, under Tudhaliya I. Possibly, related with myths about Heracles early sacking of Troy & Bellerophon’s deeds in Anatolia.
