At the fundraiser at Steve Ross's house, the president talked about trying for a deal on background checks and China, per an attendee. He said, per attendee, there will be a deal and the senate doesn't have to return because the leadership will mutually agree on a deal ... 1/
2/ and he insisted it will happen. He also described the currency manipulator designation of China as short term pain for long term gain and said, per attendee, that the move had devalued their currency by the amount of the tariffs, so it has no real effect on US consumers.
The president also said at one of the fundraisers, per another attendee, something to the effect of how he's their only choice and they have to support or they'll be stuck with Bernie or one of the other Democrats, using a word for crazy (attendee believes it was "whackjobs").
