This article argues that "Scientists must rise above politics and restate their value to society", but this turns out to mean putting 'scientists' above democracy. That's not 'rising above politics'.

The main thing scientists find very difficult to understand is that they're not all Einstein. The second thing they find difficult to understand is that their insights rarely extend beyond their field of expertise.
The third thing they find difficult to understand is how obvious it is that institutional science is very easily bent to political purposes and scientists fool themselves about their immunity to ideology.
The fourth thing scientists just don't get that being convinced you are right isn't the same thing as having the debate and winning the argument.
