Judging by the public statement and the information they texted to residents of Rukban, the UN agencies and SARC chose to ignore warnings, including by the Syrian Association for Citizens Diginity that it is not safe for people of Rukban to go to Assad-held territory. 2/
The UN and SARC are yet to investigate allegations of detentions, arrests, beatings and disappearances in "refugee shelters" where returnees are detained which we have documented since the forced return from Rukban started. 3/ medium.com/@SACD/displace…
Despite having almost no access to these "shelters", the UN and SARC continue to promote forced return in direct contravention of the principles of informed and voluntary return they are bound to respect. While the abuses continue. 4/ medium.com/@SACD/choice-f…
Instead of pressuring them, the UN and SARC have a duty to provide people of #Rukban with aid, provide full information on the conditions facing them in Assad's detention centers and respect their pleas to be taken to other locations where they will be safe. 5/5
