The essence of cakeism. The UK will adopt its own rules, or maybe US ones, regarding goods, labour, environment, etc. So things will be sold there that may not be legal in the EU, and produced in ways that would give UK producers an unfair advantage.

And Johnson will be more than happy to promise that there will be no border between Ireland and Northern Ireland. Of course he will! And then argue that we don’t need one between Dover and Calais either.
Destroying the Single Market would be a small price to pay, after all, if that is what is required to allow the U.K. to do whatever it wants on regulation, and yet maintain frictionless trade with the EU.
The only good news here is that there will be zero pressure on Ireland from the rest of the EU to ditch the backstop since it’s so clear what’s really going on.
